PLACE stands for Projects Linking Art, Community & Environment. PLACE is an ethical nonprofit that builds sustainable communities for the arts.
We think of PLACE as a "make tank," an organization that creates leading-edge examples of what's possible.
PLACE's mission is to build a sustainable, just and inspiring world, one community at a time.
PLACE builds sustainable communities, or ecovillages, that bring together the arts, environmentalism and social justice. PLACE is hired by cities, municipal entities, and other large institutions like universities and foundations to create green communities for the public good. We strive to make each PLACE project reflect the highest community ideals, such as creating beautiful and inspiring places, lifting people out of poverty, empowering community participation, and providing equal opportunity, all while generating economic return, renewable energy and green-collar jobs.
PLACE's vision is to build communities that dramatically improve the quality of life for people and the vitality of the Earth. PLACE wants to build communities that are like a forest; a beautiful, green place that makes it's own energy from the sun, that makes This isoxygen and sequesters carbon, that provides habitat for humans and thousands of other species, that recycles everything it makes, and wastes nothing.
PLACE develops new and experimental models for buildings, urban neighborhoods, intentional communities and ecovillages that demonstrate radical innovation in environmental design, live/work development for artists and creative businesses, affordable workforce housing, and supportive housing for the most economically distressed.
